Kevin Burns Jr. was born to Kevin and Mary Burns on September 3, 1986. He was raised in humble surroundings on the southwest side of Houston, Texas. Kevin’s parents are educators who through their passion for education instilled in him the love for books. It is this love for books and education which afforded Kevin the opportunity to graduate from Lamar University and later obtain his masters from his father’s alma mater Texas Southern University. Kevin has always had a passion for artistic expression. Kevin attributes this passion to his mother because she is a graduate of the Art Institute of Houston. She often shared with him the wonders of the artistic world that continues to intrigue him.
While pursuing his education at Lamar Kevin began to express his emotions about love, life and God through poetic writings. This led Kevin to publish a book of poetry entitled “Heart Who Goes There”. Kevin also is an actor who has played roles in several films (A Capstone Saga, A Widows Heart, Joy Comes in the Morning, etc.”) and other film and theatrical roles. He has long played the role of “Ramon” in Wisdom Entertainment’s “Ramon and Gretta”. He also recently completed the role of Micah in upcoming writer Patrick Thornton’s stage play “Shadows of Doubt”. Kevin is a regular at poetry events around Houston and surrounding areas.
Kevin has had the privilege to perform at various churches, schools and events. However expressive art- Kevin believes true expressions come through actions. He spends a significant amount of his time mentoring and volunteering in his community, a lesson taken from his father. Like his parents he is involved in the education process and believes in its ability to help free others like himself from their surroundings.
